Everyday, somewhere in the world, a child is orphaned for a reason beyond his or her control. In the hunger, disease and war ravaged continent of Africa alone, there are millions of helpless orphaned children yearning for help. Once, Khuraira was one of them. After losing her mother at birth, she spent her early days in a dingy orphanage in the small town of Jos, Nigeria. She was later rescued and sent to a local school by a poor, caring aunt who lived in a small shack with no running water and no electricity. From the proceeds of cow milk and yogurt she peddled door to door in a calabash, she managed to raise Khuraira and to instill in her genuine human values of honesty, humility and selflessness.
It's therefore understandable why Khuraira's mission goes beyond making women look flawless. In fact, her business slogan, making the world flawless, one face at a time simply defines her real purpose as she believes the world would not be flawless unless each needy child is fed and cared for.
"I came a long, long, long way". She says with tearing eyes. "Giving back is my only purpose; it is the only way I would feel I mattered somehow. As a matter of fact, a God given talent not used for the betterment of mankind is a waste".
While still committed to educating needy children in her hometown of Jos, Khuraira has decided to establish The KHURAIRA ORPHANS FUND, abbreviated KOF with a slogan designed to awaken the caring side of all of us, members of humanity: KOF would benefit from a percentage of the proceeds of Khuraira , funds from private and corporate donors as well as special charity events, one such event being World Orphans Week (WOW). All the funds would go directly to the children either individually or through partnership with reputable orphanages. One other mission of KOF is to create a support system for the children within their families and their communities. It's bad enough for a fatherless or motherless child not to know where his or her next meal will be coming from. It's even worst not to have anyone to look up to, or to go to for emotional comfort.
Also, Khuraira believes that mankind is a chain with those poor orphans in Africa as its weakest link. Through KOF, she intends to strengthen that link by exposing it to knowledge through education, thereby hoping to make the whole chain stronger.
"If through KOF, I can create another Khuraira", she says, "If I could just touch and instill hope in a helpless orphan languishing in that link of fear, despair and hopelessness, I would have mattered.
